New Product Development Engineering Manager

Reports To: VP of Engineering

Summary

The New Product Development Engineering Manager will be the Thought Leader in designing, testing, and implementing new products for medical, laboratory air compressor and vacuum systems. The New Product Development Engineering team:

• Designs mechanical components and electro-mechanical systems to provide Innovative product solutions.
• Supports new product lines while ensuring compliance with UL, CSA and other relevant agencies Including OSHPD for seismic certifications.
• Provides support for the Sales team through the generation of relevant technical content and innovative product Introductions.

Key Job Functions/Duties

The New Product Development Engineering Manager will be responsible for:

• Understanding the company’s business position with design engineers, current distribution partners, major end users, and competitors
• Creating a territory plan designed to increase promotion of company products; this will include understanding the distributor’s sales and marketing efforts of company products
• Working with Design Engineers at Architecture and Engineering firms to include Powerex products within New Construction Specifications
• Developing strong direct relationships with major end users, including a high level of customer satisfaction, so the end users can be used as reference accounts

Strategy

• Thought leader in the design, development, testing, and implementation of the new products that are manufactured by the company.
• Create and manage a New Product Development roadmap to support the Powerex growth strategy.

People Leadership

• Lead the New Product Development team including our co-op program.
• Provide technical direction, coaching and guidance, as well as hands-on design and management for all New Product Development engineering initiatives.
• Define personal and team roles, responsibilities and accountabilities.

Product Development

• Obtains and maintains agency certifications for new and current production products.
• Creates mechanical designs including generation of bill of materials and component part selection.
• Documents mechanical designs using Solid Edge software.
• Establishes best practices for mechanical designs.
• Identifies and supports quality Improvements on new products after Introduction to market.
• Evaluates and improves engineering design processes to gain efficiencies as well as improve the quality of products.

Continuous Improvement

• Designs, develop and implements a continuous improvement process that brings efficiencies and process improvements to product design and development processes.
• Creates a continuous improvement process that is aligned with and supports ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 methodologies.

Engineering Technology

• Products designed with Industry leading air and vacuum pumps
• PLC controlled equipment utilizing HMI’s and VFD’s
• Industry leading tools Including Solid Edge, TeamCenter and CloudSuite Industrial

Education, Experience, and Expertise

Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent. MS in engineering is optional.

Minimum requirements: 5+ years of design work with relevant experience. 2+ years of engineering management experience

Required experience:

• Product Development Thought Leader who possesses a forward-looking view of new technologies.
• Working with and communicating with customers to understand their needs or challenges and solving them.
• Leader, Mentor and Coach who understands the dynamics of developing high performing engineering teams.

Preferred Experience: NFPA 99, Solid Edge, TeamCenter
